#1. Volunteer

Volunteering is a great way to use and develop your skills, meet new people and help a cause that you are passionate about. For students and young people, volunteering allows you to gain hands-on experience in a variety of areas which is great for building your CV and is appealing to many employers.

Volunteering has a positive social impact for individuals, communities and the organisations they serve. Most of all, it is FUN and FEELS GOOD!!!

Volunteers are so important to helping us fulfill our mission. Having volunteers to help at events, assist with administrative tasks and support our fundraising efforts leaves more funds available to provide our frontline counselling services.

Teac Tom is dependent on volunteers to help us:

  • Operate our 24 Hour Phone Line / Listening Service

  • Meet people as a Support & Referral Volunteer

  • Help run our fantastic Flagship Events

  • Support our Admin and Marketing team

Phone Line / Listening Service.

We provide in-house training for our Listening Service so our volunteers can fulfill the role with confidence. Without our volunteer listeners we simply would not be able to provide a 24 hour phone service that offers a lifeline to people in crisis.

In that moment, a friendly voice at the end of the phone can be the difference between life and death.

Support & Referral.

The S&R team is responsible for the registration of new people attending the service. We need volunteers to commit to a minimum of one morning or afternoon per week to fulfill this role. We provide in-house training in addition to nationally-recognised training programmes such as ASSIST.

Without our volunteer Support and Referral team we would not be able to meet people face-to-face and show them the understanding they need/deserve.

Events.

Teac Tom hosts 3-5 flagship events per year. To help us make these a success, we need enthusiastic, community-minded people who can roll up their sleeves and get stuck in to whatever needs doing.

We need people to help with everything from distributing marketing material to helping with behind the scenes set up, shaking buckets to painting faces. The key element is to generate excitement for participants and a greater awareness of Teac Tom for those attending.

Admin.

From time to time we may need additional support on our Admin team including marketing and social media. If you have some time to spare on a regular basis and have a skill that you would like to share then we would love to hear from you.

Some of the areas where we need support - social media, photography, database management, filing and answering phones.

#2. Fundraise

We rely on the generosity of the public to fundraise for Teac Tom. All money that is donated through fundraisers goes towards covering the counselling and operating costs of our centres.

  1. Skydive - Want to jump out of a plane at 13,000 feet? Looking for an adrenaline rush like no other? Then a skydive could be for you! A popular option for people who want to achieve something for themselves while fundraising for a good cause.

  2. Beard Shave - Whether the beard is a new addition or you’ve been growing it for years, we bet people will pay good money to see it come off!

  3. Sponsored walk/run/swim/cycle - A simple and straightforward event to organise. Get your club involved and make it as competitive as you like. Plan the route and have some volunteer marshals along the way to help out. Finish the event with a cup of tea or a barbeque to raise even more money.

  4. Table Quiz - An old favourite and a great way to come together with friends old and new. All you need is a venue, some refreshments and someone to act as quizmaster for the evening. No googling allowed!

  5. Fantasy Football League - build your squad, select your team and away you go! Whatever sport is your thing, get your friends and family involved and raise money for your cause while showing off your manager skills!

What we need!

Whether your idea is tried and tested or new and quirky, if you are passionate about your event then others will be too. The most important thing is to get people behind the cause and remember - simple is best!

  1. A commitment from you to plan and carry out the event. We don’t have the resources to help you run your event but are happy to chat to you at the initial stages and help you get on the right track.

  2. A completed application form - once your event has been approved we can help promote it on our social channels (click here for the form).

  3. Keep up updated on your event and send us some pictures so we can post on our Thank You Wall.
